|Snake, Still Rockin' After All These Years
I got my first guitar for Christmas as a 5th grader in 1955. I played the trombone as a member of the Edison Jr. High band and we won the state competition in 1957. In high school I was branded as "Snake". I formed my first band in 1960 "Little Alvin & The Regents" as the rhythm guitar player. In 1961 we changed our name to "The Fabulous Cyclones". In 1962 I was looking to play in any band I could find. To open up my options I taught myself to play drums, lead guitar, and bass to go along with my rhythm pickin. I played with several different bands playing whatever they needed me to play.
While playing at a club called "The 13th Hour" in 1963 Lewis Elliott hired me to play with "The Cavaliers". The band was very well known around San Angelo, Texas. In 1964 J. Frank Wilson joined the band and we recorded "Last Kiss" in Ron Newdoll's brand new studio "Accurate Sound." We didn't expect the song to do much but it took off to the top of the charts and didn't stop until it was #1 and sold over 500,000 albums. This gave us the oportunity to go on the road with the Dick Clark Caravan of Stars. We toured with the Animals, Ronnie & Daytonas, Bryan Hyland, The Ronettes & Others.
After the tour was over Lewis Elliott and I continued to play gigs around the San Angelo area. Lewis kept the band "The Cavaliers" and I went on to start other bands. In the 70's I had "The Living Color" and "Snake & The 15Th St. Blues Band". 1971 I went on the road singing lead with "Roland A & the Deltones". In '73 the band was called "The Sirs." In '75 I started "Snake and Sagebrush." My love for music has gotten stronger over the years. I realize there is an awful lot of talent in the world that is not being heard. I hope that creating this CD I can encourage other artist to at least try it once - no matter how old or young they may be.
This CD is a mixture of rockabilly songs I have enjoyed thoughout the years with a little of my own style thrown in. I found out it's hard to find musicians who can break away from their busy lives so I decided to do most of it myself and put a few friends in here and there. I want to thank all my family, friends, and fans who have supported me all these years.
Special note: This CD is dedicated to Lewis Elliott, lifelong friend and manager, who has made this CD project a reality.
