| Bad Rockabilly Music, Ellis & The Angry Teens Goofin' Records GRCD 6132
Since, according to Ellis, Rockabilly music originated in Finland in the mid 70s, and not in the United States (Read More) we really do welcome this new album by these alcoholic Finnish old-timers. To start with, a whole new concept for the album cover was developed. A cardboard box with a drawer, which in it's turn can be unfolded. Inside a 4-sided inlay containing a photo-comic titled "Velvert Violent". Of course there's a CD in there too with the latest efforts of these famous Finnish alcoholics. The first track is also the title track of the album "Bad Rockabilly Music". This is a great title actually, because (as we all know) there is no such thing as Bad Rockabilly. If it's bad it ain't rockabilly, and if it's rockabilly it can't be bad. And once you have listened to this album, you know I'm right. There are 14 tracks on this new release, 10 of which are brand new self penned originals, which is worth a compliment to begin with. Ellis and his Teens play authentic rockabilly using an electric bass, which gives their music that specific Teddy Boy sound. Fast paced rock 'n' roll with excellent vocals, a rolling bass, and cutting guitar breaks make this music a bopping feast for Rockabillies and Teddy Boys alike. Besides the 10 originals you will find great renditions of Jewel & Eddie's "Opportunity" (with Eddie Cochran), "Move Over Tiger" (Vince Taylor), "Scratchin" (Eddie Cochran) and "I'm Tired Of Bummin' Around" (Hank Locklin). This new album is a well produced combination of original music and covers that have not been redone too much over the years, with a "no-nonsense, keep-it-simple" attitude. Great pleasure! Well done guys.
