| Buddy Dughi Plays Hot Rod Surf - Buddy Dughi Golly Gee Records GGR 1038
Surf's up again, dudes! Buddy Dughi, lead guitar player from the Hot Rod Trio, has recorded an all instrumental album with 10 great surftunes. Buddy must have had me in mind when he left out the saxophones, thanks for that Buddy! Most of the songs were written by Buddy himself and recorded in a sober guitar/bass/drums setup, which does the trick perfectly for me, but harcore surf lovers might wonder where the rhythm guitar(s) and the sax went, but rest assured, take my word for it, you won't even miss them. Buddy's sound is full and magnifique. There are a few covers on this album and one of them is a great rendition of the classic "Pipeline". Again Dughi let's you forget additional instruments when he blows his version through the speakers. Although this album has not the complexity of Slacktone or Laika & The Cosmonauts, it definitely brings back and revives the roots sound of original surf guitar, even better: no saxes to spoil the guitar fun! Buddy uses exceptionally good gear to accomplish his original sound, a custom made doubleneck Jaguar and Hallmark guitars and a Fender echotank, and you can hear that if you crank up the volume. His beautiful wife Suzi plays the bass on this CD, which she also does for Buddy's other band, The Hot Rod Trio. Every band should have an eyecatcher like Suzi! This album is a must have if you plan a beachparty, or if you're a (surf) guitar fan! Tracklisting: Buddy Dughi is backed up on this CD by: Contact information: Golly Gee Records, Inc.
