From Rockville, Maryland, comes this Rockabilly trio. The Droptops is their name. They always get the crowd on their dancing feet with their very energetic live shows. The Droptops are doing this since 2003 in the DC metro area. The style of music they play is in the brand of Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Chuck Berry and Little Richard, it sounds very authentic, and real 1950s Rock and Roll and Rockabilly as they played in the Sun Studios. They are also influenced by the classic Country and Hillbilly artists like Tennessee Ernie Ford and Johnny Cash, as well as Western Swing and big bands like Moon Mullican. This CD contains 10 tracks and is completely written by The Droptops. It's published by Newbraugh Brothers Music BMI. This CD comes in a nicely printed cardboard folder and the CD itself looks like a real vinyl platter.

Review:
The opener is "Where There's Smoke", I was happily surprised with what I was hearing. I hadn't heard of them before, so I didn't know what to expect. Well, this first track is real, and I mean real authentic Rockabilly. I love it!! Track two "Rock! Rock! Rock!" goes on where the first one left off. It's all there: great guitar play, stomping bass and steady drums. "Walkin' The Floor" is a midtempo song, and in my opinion the vocals are somewhat minor to the first two tracks. A balad is next on the menu: "You Treat Me Mean". It's a nice song but I have the feeling that this is too slow for The Droptops. They are more at ease with the faster songs. This comes right in with "She's My Baby", great rocker this one. Then comes Elizabeth on her guitar and sets the tune for another great Rockabilly track: "Back With My Baby". Nice!

"Lovesick Blues", I hear you think: a cover from Hank Williams?? No way! This is a good midtempo Rockabilly song with great slapping on that big upright bass! Rock 'n' Roll all the way on "Stuck On You", it's difficult to sit still on this one! The next song sounds so old and authentic that I had to listen a few times before I could say: yeah I like it... It's called "When You Go", it easily could have been recorded by Carl Perkins way back in the fifties. Last song is "Disappearing Baby". This made me think of old recordings of Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps, not the music itself but the fun that you'll hear, I mean the laughing and screams that were so often heard on Gene's recordings. The music, well that's what it's all about, is a little in the style of Johnny Burnette. On this track you can hear what these three Rockers are capable of! If you ask me, I have two songs that I really like: the first and the last, these two make me really happy! On the other end I have to say that The Droptops should stick with the faster songs. You can put this CD in the range of The Flea Bops, Carl Perkins, Johnny Burnette and Johnny Powers. If you like them, you'll probably like this one also.
