| Dreamin' Love Affair - Earl & The Overtones Blue Lake Records BLR CD04
Earl & The Overtones are from France, Bourge to be exact, and that's where rockabilly band The Wild Goners met up with Earl. They decided to team up and a new band was born. Not a bad choice when I listen to this CD, it's obviously recorded with a lot of enthousiasm en fun. The CD has a very high "Luther plays the Boogie" amount and Johnny Cash fans will surely love this platter, and on the other hand, the band also plays a few uptempo rockers. The album consists of a mix between covers and original material, but personally, I like the band's own songs better than the covers, allthough Kathleen is a favorite definitely of mine. Because Dominique is a good songwriter and also a fine stringpicker I suggest the boys take advantage of the writing skills of Dom! This album was recorded in Switserland in the Blue Lake studio on authentic valve and analogue equipment, and you can absolutely hear that. The sound is warm and soft and has a fifties feel all over. The CD comes with some bonus video material, and what I really like, real live toddler giggles at the end ;-) So it's a real bargain! Tracklisting:
