|Rockabilly Jazz, Danny B. Harvey
Raucous Records RAUCD 160
Danny B. Harvey probably needs no introduction, but for the record, he recorded with Levi Dexter & The Ripchords, 13 Cats, The Honeydippers, Swing Cats, Brigitte Handley, Twenty Flight Rockers, and probably a whole lot more. Now Danny's long awaited solo CD is released by Raucous Records in the UK. A collection of guitar instrumentals. Blues, Rockabilly, Jazz and Country styles all blended together to show off Danny's unique, and fascinating, hybrid finger-picking style.
Danny is an excellent guitar picker, and he recorded quite a lot of rockabilly music in the past, but this solo album is quite a bit off the rockabilly path. The title "Rockabilly Jazz" might be a bit misleading. In Danny's superb guitar instrumentals (yes, this is an instrumental-only album) you can clearly hear the influences of Merle Travis, Hank Garland, Les Paul and Joe Maphis. I.m.h.o. that should be filed under Country. Great music, but after 5 or 6 tracks it gets a little boring. And there are 17 tracks on this album! The faster paced tracks are pretty neat, but they are varied with jazzy songs, which will not appeal much to rockabilly fans. If you're into guitar instrumentals, or a fan of the great country pickers of the previous century, this album is a must have! All 12 original songs on this album were written by Danny B. Harvey, Danny also plays all instruments.
In december 2004 Danny appeared on the Tony Danza Show with Nancy Sinatra. Nancy performed "Baby's Coming Back To Me" from her new CD and a reprise of "Boots Are Made For Walking" at the end of the show, with Tony Danza joining in on vocals. Nancy made quite an impression on Danny I think, 'cause he now calls her "Queen of Cool". (www.nancysinatra.com)
